Brasov dominates the starting minutes of the game but no real scoring chances are created. Kovács threatens with the first big shot of the game from Fehérvár but Brasov's goalie makes a good save. Brasov also has the first powerplay opportunity but Fehérvár works massively in defense.

Fehérvár takes the lead in the 13th minute when Bartalis is left alone in front of the net and he scores into the net's upper left corner. The Hungarian side dominates the second half of the period and Kocsis also has a penalty shot chance but he misses it.
 

The second period starts with a threat for Fehérvár but after the injury Bartalis is able to leave the ice on his own two feet. Register then threatens from the blue line, then Fehérvár increases its lead to two goals in the 27th minute when after several good passes Nemes scores into the upper side of the net. The response comes quickly when Brasov attacks two against one and the puck finds its way into the net under Rajna's legpads. Then Rajna has to make several more big saves and the second half of the period is spent with more fighting and less hockey.
 

The third period also starts with penalties but Fehérvár is attacking more intensely than its opponent. The returning Bartalis and Marino create several scoring opportunities but score no further goals. Brasov ties the score in the 49th minute when a big shot from the blue line finds its way into Rajna's net. Fehérvár responds five minutes later when Bartalis' line exchanges passes, then Kóger scores with ease. Three minutes later another Fehérvár chance is missed when the same Bartalis line hits the post. Brasov pulls the goalie off but is unable to tie the score and Fehérvár wins its first game of the tournament.
